EyePoint, Inc. (EYPT) reported a first-quarter net loss of $0.99 per share, missing Wall Street expectations as the company increases spending on pivotal clinical trials for its lead drug candidate, DURAVYU.
"We are entering an important time for EyePoint and the retina community with Phase 3 topline data for DURAVYU in wet AMD expected beginning mid-year," Jay S. Duker, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of EyePoint, said in a statement. He added that the drug is positioned for readouts in the two largest retinal disease markets.
The Watertown, Massachusetts-based company posted a net loss of $84.8 million, widening from a loss of $45.2 million in the same period last year. Revenue totaled $696,000, down from $24.5 million in Q1 2025. The company attributed the revenue decline to the conclusion of recognizing deferred revenue from its 2023 licensing agreement for YUTIQ product rights. Operating expenses grew to $87.9 million from $73.3 million, driven by costs for the ongoing Phase 3 trials.
Despite the wider loss, EyePoint emphasized its financial stability, with $223 million in cash and marketable securities. This provides a cash runway into the fourth quarter of 2027, a critical period as the company awaits key clinical data. The next major catalyst is the topline data from the Phase 3 LUGANO trial for DURAVYU in wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD), expected in mid-2026.
DURAVYU Program Advances
EyePoint's clinical focus is on DURAVYU (vorolanib intravitreal insert), an investigational treatment for serious retinal diseases. The company is running two parallel Phase 3 programs.
For wet AMD, the LUGANO and LUCIA trials have enrolled over 900 patients and are on track for the mid-2026 data readout. For diabetic macular edema (DME), the COMO and CAPRI trials have enrolled over a third of their target patients, with full enrollment anticipated in the third quarter of 2026 and topline data expected in late 2027.
The company's future is heavily dependent on positive outcomes from these trials, which could unlock multi-billion dollar markets. The upcoming mid-2026 data for the LUGANO trial represents the most significant near-term event for investors.
