German software giant SAP SE is making a strategic investment in AI orchestration platform n8n, valuing the Berlin-based startup at $5.2 billion to embed its automation capabilities directly into SAP's core enterprise offerings.
"To provide accurate and secure business outcomes at scale, agentic AI must be grounded in deep process knowledge, reliable data, and enterprise-grade governance," said Christian Klein, CEO of SAP SE. "By integrating n8n into Joule Studio, we’re accelerating SAP’s ability to help customers design, connect, and scale agentic AI across their core business processes."
The investment more than doubles n8n's valuation from its Series C round less than a year ago, which valued the company at $2.5 billion. The multi-year commercial agreement will see n8n's platform, which already serves over 1,400 enterprise customers and a community of 1.7 million developers, become a native component within Joule Studio, SAP’s agent-building environment in the SAP Business AI Platform.
For SAP, the partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of agentic AI by grounding it in enterprise-grade governance and data sovereignty, a critical factor for organizations under GDPR and other regulations. For n8n, it marks a major milestone, moving the open-source born platform into the core infrastructure of one of the world's largest enterprise software ecosystems.
A European AI Champion Emerges
The partnership between the DAX 40-listed SAP and the fast-growing n8n represents a significant homegrown collaboration for Europe's technology sector. At a time when the continent is seeking to cultivate its own AI leaders to compete with US and Chinese counterparts, this deal builds a commercial backbone for enterprise AI in the region.
"For n8n, securing SAP as a strategic investor marks a pivotal moment," said Jan Oberhauser, Founder & CEO of n8n. "As one of the world's largest enterprise software companies, its decision to back n8n and to embed us inside Joule Studio reflects genuine confidence in our platform and our vision."
Orchestrating Agentic AI
Unlike conventional workflow tools, n8n is designed for what it calls the "agentic era," supporting multi-agent orchestration. This allows AI systems to identify business events, coordinate decisions, and trigger actions within a customizable and auditable environment.
The integration will provide SAP customers with a visual automation canvas supporting no-code, low-code, and pro-code development. With over 1,000 existing integrations for business tools, databases, and AI models, the platform will allow enterprise teams to connect SAP systems to their broader technology stack. This move addresses a key challenge in enterprise AI: bridging the gap between powerful AI models and the complex, legacy systems that run core business processes. The partnership also follows n8n's previous funding round which included backing from Nvidia's investment arm, further cementing its position in the enterprise AI infrastructure space.
