Apple's iPhone 18 Pro has entered mass production at Foxconn's Zhengzhou facility, with the assembly giant offering bonuses of as much as 7,500 yuan to returning workers as it prepares for a September launch that will test the company's new staggered release strategy.
"iPhone 17 series sales have been strong, and Apple's innovation cycle is trending upward," CSC Financial said in a research note, pointing to a foldable iPhone and smart glasses among several products expected between 2026 and 2027.
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to shrink its Dynamic Island cutout from 20.76mm to 13.49mm — a 35 percent reduction — pushing the screen-to-body ratio to about 94.7 percent. The devices will run on the A20 Pro chip, built by TSMC, and feature a variable aperture main camera that adjusts light intake depending on the shooting environment, improving low-light photography and depth-of-field control.
Apple's decision to stagger the iPhone 18 lineup — launching the Pro models in September while pushing the standard iPhone 18 to spring 2027 — allows its supply chain to focus on higher-margin Pro units during the holiday period. Industrial Securities said the combination of expanding Apple Intelligence availability, the iPhone 18 lineup, and a new foldable iPhone should keep hardware and AI innovation driving the high-end smartphone market.
Foxconn's Hiring Surge
The shift to a phased release marks Apple's first departure from its traditional September all-at-once launch. The Pro and Pro Max models will arrive first, possibly alongside Apple's first foldable iPhone, while the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 are expected in the spring.
Foxconn's Zhengzhou campus, the main hub for iPhone assembly, can produce hundreds of thousands of units per day at peak output. The company has raised hourly wages to 27 yuan and boosted rehire bonuses to attract workers from rural China for contracts typically lasting about three months. In August 2025, Foxconn offered bonuses of up to $1,113 to new hires who stayed for the full period.
Apple's China Momentum
The production ramp comes as Apple gains ground in its most important overseas market. Apple's iPhone shipments in China grew 23 percent year-over-year in the second quarter of 2026, capturing 18 percent market share and ranking second behind Huawei's 23 percent, according to Counterpoint Research. The overall Chinese smartphone market contracted 2 percent during the same period.
Counterpoint attributed Apple's outperformance partly to stable pricing — Android rivals have raised prices as component costs rose — and to consumers pulling forward purchases in anticipation of an iPhone price increase in the third quarter.
Brokerage Outlook
Chinese brokerages are broadly bullish on Apple's product cycle. CSC Financial said the foldable iPhone and smart glasses pipeline between 2026 and 2027 could directly benefit the equipment supply chain. Industrial Securities recommended investors track mid-to-long-term opportunities tied to Apple's product strength and AI upgrades.
JPMorgan said it prefers iPhone supply chain exposure over Android smartphone supply chains, citing stronger-than-expected shipment volumes, a more favorable model mix, and new product launches. CMB Securities noted that Apple's premium positioning and disciplined pricing have driven market share gains, with iPhone sales exceeding expectations in the first half.
Apple shares traded at $325.00, down 2.74 percent on the session. The stock has been supported by expectations that the iPhone 18 cycle, combined with AI features and new form factors, will sustain revenue growth through 2027.
