The legal challenge for Google is not happening in a vacuum. Across the industry, dominant players are facing a wave of legal and regulatory pushback. Meta, for instance, is grappling with multiple lawsuits over child safety and platform harms, alongside local disputes over the environmental impact of its data centers. In a recent congressional hearing, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pressed the EPA on whether data center construction, like Meta's facility in Georgia, was affecting local drinking water quality, a claim Meta has disputed.
