Ford Motor Company is recalling 422,613 vehicles in the U.S. over a failure of the windshield wiper, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Tuesday, April 7.
The recall stems from a potential defect in the windshield wiper motor which could result in a loss of visibility, according to the NHTSA safety report.
The recall announced on April 7 follows a separate action in March involving 254,640 SUVs recalled for a software issue that could disable the rearview camera and other driver-assist features. While a fix for the software issue is available over-the-air, the current wiper motor defect will require a physical dealer repair.
The string of recalls poses a risk to Ford's brand reputation for quality, a key factor in the competitive automotive market. The costs associated with the repairs could also negatively impact the company's upcoming quarterly earnings, potentially affecting Ford's (F) stock performance.
This latest quality issue adds to investor concerns following reports of engine and transmission problems in prior model years. Investors will be watching Ford’s upcoming quarterly earnings report on April 28 for any commentary on the financial impact of these recent recalls.
