Over 2 million DOGE remained trapped on Dogechain after its 12:00 UTC Aug. 8 shutdown deadline, as block production continued and bridge withdrawals stayed unproven.
Dogechain announced the cutoff in July and warned that assets remaining on the chain might become inaccessible or permanently lost, according to the project's official X account. The official RPC returned block 62,578,500 immediately before noon and block 62,578,578 less than two minutes after the deadline, with the latter carrying a 12:01:52 UTC timestamp.
The official explorer showed the chain at block 62,578,630 minutes later, with recent blocks attributed to multiple miner addresses. The bridge interface displayed 2,081,715.83 DOGE as "Current DOGE on Chain," but no successful post-cutoff withdrawal was demonstrated. The dashboard total does not identify which balances are recoverable or controlled by users, so it cannot be treated as an estimate of stranded funds.
QuickSwap had warned users on X to withdraw assets and liquidity positions before the shutdown. Its Dogechain-specific route (chain ID 2000) resolved to QuickSwap on Polygon (chain ID 137) both before and after noon, removing the ordinary interface for swaps and liquidity management. QuickSwap's original Dogechain interface announcement said it supported trading, liquidity provision, and yield farms.
The split in service availability leaves the recovery path for stranded assets unresolved. Dogechain's bridge documentation describes an administrator-mediated process involving signatures and a service that executes transfers — continued block production and a visible form do not prove those operational components can still return DOGE. A holder's ability to recover funds depends on more than validators continuing to add blocks to the chain. As of press time, the explorer web page fails to load.
The incident follows a pattern of bridge failures across the crypto sector. Two Ethereum bridges lost $31.7 million combined within hours in July, and Powerloom shut down its chain with just 24 hours' notice after a five-week warning. These events highlight the operational risk of sidechains and cross-chain bridges, where user funds depend on project-operated infrastructure that can be discontinued.
Dogechain, an Ethereum-compatible network separate from the Dogecoin blockchain, trades at $0.0000129, up 0.26 percent over the past 24 hours, with a market cap of $1.25 million. The broader crypto market stands at $2.22 trillion with $41.61 billion in 24-hour volume, and Bitcoin dominance at 58.93 percent.
