Fabric Foundation says Pi Network will accept the PI token for robot services, but Pi Core Team has stayed silent on the claim.
Pi Network rose 10% to near $0.0872 after Fabric Foundation claimed the token joined RoboPay, a deal Pi Core Team has not confirmed.
RoboPay is an on-chain payment layer built by the non-profit Fabric Foundation that lets AI agents discover, hire, and pay robots autonomously, the foundation said in a post on X dated Aug. 4.
PI's 24-hour volume rose 75% to about $11.5 million, crypto.news data shows, while futures open interest climbed to $8.82 million from $8.51 million, per CoinAnk. The token remains 22% above its mid-July all-time low of just over $0.07.
If confirmed, the integration would let tens of millions of Pi holders pay for robot services such as deliveries, security patrols, and industrial inspections, expanding the token's use beyond peer-to-peer transfers. Pi Core Team has set an Aug. 11 deadline for node operators to upgrade to Protocol 26, the next step before the final planned Protocol 27.
What the RoboPay claim says
Fabric Foundation announced on Aug. 4 that Pi would be used to pay for robot services across the Fabric network, describing the setup as an "open machine economy" where humans, AI agents, and robots transact on shared payment rails. The foundation cited grocery deliveries, property patrols, industrial inspections, and humanoid assistance as planned use cases.
Community reaction has been split. Some Pi holders called the move a step toward real-world utility, while crypto commentator CryptoDiva urged caution, noting Pi Core Team has made no announcement. Without confirmation from Pi's official channels, it remains unclear whether the partnership is finalized or still under discussion.
PI price and the Protocol 26 deadline
PI traded at $0.0872 as of 14:30 UTC Wednesday, up 10% over the past week, after touching a session high of $0.0902, crypto.news data shows. The 4-hour relative strength index stood at 61.97, below the overbought threshold of 70, while the token pressed against the upper Bollinger Band at $0.08824.
The token still trades below its 50-day simple moving average of $0.10218, the 100-day at $0.12807, and the 200-day at $0.15230, reflecting a downtrend that has persisted since the first quarter. A 4-hour close above $0.090 would mark the first clear breakout, with the psychological $0.10 level and the 50-day average forming the next resistance zone.
Pi Core Team has told node operators to install Protocol 26 by Aug. 11 or risk losing connection to the mainnet. The upgrade follows eight completed protocol migrations and precedes the final planned Protocol 27. The deadline could drive short-term volatility if node participation diverges from expectations.
The RoboPay claim gives PI another proposed utility route beyond transfers and ecosystem apps, but its effect on token demand depends on service availability, user adoption, and the number of transactions settled in PI. Until Pi Core Team issues a statement, the partnership remains an unverified claim, leaving PI's near-term direction tied to whether buyers can convert the current volume increase into a close above $0.090.
