Insilico Medicine and China Medical System Holdings deepened their collaboration on central nervous system drug development, with Insilico eligible for as much as RMB1.2 billion ($165 million) in milestone payments plus sales-based royalties.
"We are delighted to establish another collaboration with China Medical System just three months after our initial announcement," Feng Ren, PhD, Co-CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of Insilico Medicine, said. "In this new program, we value the input from the CMS commercialization team and are proud of the innovative Mechanism of Action identified by PandaOmics, which streamlines the development of high-potential drugs."
Under the agreement, the two parties will co-develop a CNS program targeting a mass-market indication with an innovative mechanism of action identified by Insilico's PandaOmics platform. Insilico contributes its validated AI-driven discovery platform and AI-enabled drug development capabilities, while CMS provides its experienced R&D team, deep therapeutic expertise, regulatory submission know-how, and commercialization networks across China. The deal follows an initial partnership announced earlier this year, which Ren described as "seamless and productive."
The partnership strengthens Insilico's position as a leading AI-enabled drug discovery company while giving it access to CMS's specialty therapeutic networks and market reach. For CMS, the deal builds its portfolio of first-in-class and best-in-class innovative products in key specialty areas. Lam Kong, Chairman and CEO of CMS, said the company was "deeply impressed by Insilico Medicine's capability and productivity in AI drug discovery" and that the collaboration would "accelerate the delivery of more clinically meaningful innovations to patients."
Insilico, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange as 03696.HK, applies its Pharma.AI platform across fibrosis, oncology, immunology, pain, and metabolic disorders. CMS trades as 00867.HK. Insilico shares rose 4.4% on the announcement, while CMS gained 5.3%, reflecting investor optimism about the expanded partnership's revenue potential.
The expanded collaboration validates AI-driven drug discovery in CNS, a therapeutic area where traditional R&D has faced high failure rates and development timelines exceeding a decade. Investors will watch for updates on the specific CNS program target and any subsequent clinical milestones from the partnership, which could unlock additional milestone payments for Insilico.
