Ripple Prime's $275 million private bond placement could establish XRP as collateral for corporate financing, a first for the token.
Ripple Prime raised $275 million in senior unsecured notes on Aug. 18, with KBRA citing Ripple's XRP holdings as a key credit factor in its BBB rating.
"This could mark a new use case for XRP as collateral for corporate financing," Mickle, a prominent crypto analyst, said. The structure would let Ripple borrow against its XRP without selling tokens.
The notes carry an 8.25 percent coupon with a 2031 maturity, arranged by Piper Sandler. KBRA assigned a BBB rating with stable outlook, based on expected parent company support rather than confirmed XRP collateral. Ripple held 37.66 billion XRP as of June 30, with 32.6 billion locked in on-chain escrow and about 5.06 billion outside escrow.
The bond sale tests how far Ripple Prime's institutional finance business is separated from the parent's financial structure. With the U.S. Senate set to vote on the CLARITY Act on Sept. 15, XRP's regulatory outlook and its potential role as institutional collateral could reshape demand for the token.
Ripple Prime CIV US BD HoldCo LLC issued the notes, with Hidden Road Partners CIV US LLC as the operating entity underneath and Ripple Labs at the top. KBRA judged that Ripple would likely step in with financial support if cash movement from the operating company to the holding company becomes constrained.
Ripple invested about $500 million to support Ripple Prime US's balance sheet expansion and profitability in 2025. The unit posted a profit in 2025 but remains in an early expansion phase, with revenue concentrated in spread-based finance. The company launched an exchange-traded derivatives platform in 2024 and expanded its bond repo business in 2025.
KBRA assessed Ripple's XRP holdings as having substantial unrecognized value, while noting that earnings depend heavily on digital-asset-related businesses. Ripple maintains a structure where unused XRP is re-locked into escrow, making it difficult to apply current market prices to immediate debt repayment capacity.
XRP traded at $1.44 after a 5.36 percent pullback, following a week that saw the token gain over 45 percent. The token remains 53 percent below its September record of $3.18. The 14-day RSI reads 85.7, firmly in overbought territory. Active network addresses surged 654.71 percent during the rally, according to on-chain data.
The bond raise comes as Ripple expands its institutional footprint. RLUSD, the XRP Ledger's native stablecoin, now accounts for over 90 percent of the ledger's stablecoin supply with a market cap exceeding $2 billion. If XRP-backed corporate financing gains traction, it could reduce sell pressure from Ripple's treasury operations while creating a new institutional demand channel for the token.
