Tongwei's new TNC 3.0 BIFIMAX module achieves a 93.07% bifaciality rate — the highest ever certified — promising up to €180,000 in additional annual revenue per 100MW solar farm.
Tongwei's new TNC 3.0 BIFIMAX module achieves a certified 93.07% bifaciality rate, the highest in the industry, enabling rear-side power generation that adds €180,000 in annual revenue per 100MW solar farm. The Chinese polysilicon and module manufacturer launched the product at Intersolar Europe 2026 in Munich on July 20.
"This record bifaciality rate means our modules generate significantly more power from the rear side, delivering a free energy bonus to operators," a Tongwei representative said at the launch. The company described the TNC 3.0 BIFIMAX as a high-end technological upgrade representing a major technical breakthrough.
The module delivers up to 770W with 24.8% conversion efficiency, certified by TUV Rheinland. Its low temperature coefficient of minus 0.26% per degree Celsius maintains performance under high heat, while Louvred Interconnection technology boosts micro-crack resistance by more than 100% against snow and wind loads. The result was made possible by two cell-design innovations — a selective sunken pyramid structure that optimizes rear texture and a zebra-crossing passivation contact that improves n-type passivation, the company said.
For a 100MW plant in Hamburg, Germany, the configuration unlocks an extra 81.62 million kWh of clean electricity over its lifetime compared with standard modules. The upgrade from Tongwei's July 2025 record of 91.7% bifaciality — achieved with a 94.3% cell bifaciality — shows rapid iteration in tunnel oxide passivated contact, or TOPCon, technology. The company said at the time that reaching 95% cell bifaciality and 90% module bifaciality in mass production was a major challenge but believed it would be possible within one to two years.
Residential Line Also Gets an Upgrade
Alongside the utility-scale flagship, Tongwei unveiled the TNC 2.0 G12R-48 for the residential market. The module delivers up to 480W with 24% conversion efficiency in a compact size under 2 square meters, making installation easier for local crews. Powered by the company's 360-degree 3D passivation technology, the panel minimizes energy loss and extends daily generation hours — starting earlier at dawn and ending later at dusk. It also features Louvred Interconnection for micro-crack protection against heavy snow and strong winds common in high-latitude European winters, with a uniform design that blends with modern residential architecture.
Investment Implications
Tongwei's rapid bifaciality gains — from 91.7% in July 2025 to 93.07% now — pressure rivals including LONGi Green Energy and JinkoSolar to match the rear-side efficiency benchmark. For project developers and utility operators, each percentage point of bifaciality improvement translates directly into higher energy yield per installed watt, improving levelized cost of electricity, or LCOE, without additional hardware cost. Tongwei shares trade on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange under ticker 600438; the company is also one of the world's largest polysilicon producers, giving it vertical integration advantages over pure-play module makers.
