The TON blockchain, a network associated with the Telegram messaging app, will undergo a major upgrade on April 10, 2026, to enable transaction finality in under one second.
"This upgrade is poised to significantly enhance TON's competitiveness against other high-speed Layer 1 blockchains," said a spokesperson for the TON Foundation. "The improved performance may attract more decentralized applications, leading to a positive impact on the TON token's utility and valuation."
The upgrade aims to bolster the network's performance to handle a high volume of transactions, a feature heavily promoted by Telegram's founder Pavel Durov. The move is designed to support a growing ecosystem of decentralized applications, particularly those leveraging Telegram's vast user base. This positions TON to compete more directly with established high-performance blockchains like Solana and Ethereum's Layer 2 solutions.
Analysts will be closely watching developer activity and user adoption on the TON platform following the April upgrade. The success of the upgrade will be measured by the network's ability to attract new projects and scale its dApp ecosystem, which could in turn drive demand for the native TON token.
