Sui reached 1 million operations per second in internal tracking, with AI agents among the first to detect the increase, co-founder Adeniyi Abiodun said.
"We stopped counting at 1 million per second. Turns out the first ones to notice weren't human. Stables. Agents," Abiodun said in comments shared on X.
The network has been linked to 300,000 transactions per second under high-performance conditions, according to posts from the Sui Community account. The distinction between operations and transactions remains important — operations can include more than standard user transfers. Still, the figures place Sui among the fastest blockchains by throughput, alongside Solana and other high-performance L1s.
The milestone arrives as blockchain networks prepare for a shift toward machine-led activity, where AI agents execute payments, move assets and interact with smart contracts without human input. Grayscale researchers have described Sui as a network built for scale, according to community posts citing the firm's research.
Sui's object-based model processes many actions simultaneously, avoiding delays when transactions do not depend on each other. That design gives it an advantage in scenarios requiring high throughput — gaming, trading and automated blockchain activity.
The scalability discussion comes as SUI, the network's native token, traded at $0.7087 as of June 21, up 0.79% over the prior 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap data. The modest gain coincided with heightened attention around the performance claims.
AI Agents and the Next Wave of On-Chain Users
Abiodun's comments connected Sui's speed directly to the rise of AI agents. These software programs could become active users of wallets, apps and payment rails, potentially outnumbering human participants on-chain. That shift would increase demand for networks that process large volumes at low cost.
Sui's team has positioned the network for exactly this scenario. The 300,000 TPS figure refers to simple transactions under strong network conditions, but the architecture has no hard scalability ceiling, according to the Sui Community account.
Security Prototype for Agent Commerce
Separately, Sui unveiled a prototype payment system designed to secure AI agent transactions. The system uses Seal Multi-Party Computation technology to distribute authorization across a committee, generating a unique, single-use witness for each payment. On-chain Move-based policies verify the witness before execution, preventing attackers from reusing authorization data even if they gain control of the agent.
The prototype addresses a critical vulnerability in current wallet structures, where a compromised agent can execute unauthorized transactions. While still in prototype stage, the approach signals how blockchain infrastructure may evolve to support autonomous commerce.
