SailPoint Becomes Preferred AWS Partner for AI Security on March 16
Identity security firm SailPoint and Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a new multi-year strategic collaboration agreement on March 16, 2026. The deal establishes SailPoint as a preferred identity governance solution for companies building agentic AI applications on AWS. This partnership deepens the existing relationship between the two companies, aiming to provide a unified security framework for the rapidly expanding AI ecosystem.
Partnership Targets Growing Security Risks From AI Agents
The agreement directly addresses the new security vulnerabilities created by autonomous AI agents. As these agents gain the ability to act on behalf of users and systems, they introduce a new class of non-human identities that can become significant attack surfaces. Mark McClain, CEO of SailPoint, highlighted the urgency, stating, "The proliferation of AI agents is creating a new class of non-human identities, and each one represents a new attack surface."
This move comes as the market for AI agent security attracts significant investment, validating the problem SailPoint and AWS aim to solve. For instance, security startup Onyx recently launched with $40 million in funding to manage the risks associated with autonomous AI systems, underscoring the growing enterprise demand for specialized governance solutions.
Collaboration Aims for Unified Governance and New Sales Channels
The collaboration's primary technical goal is to create a single governance layer to manage both human and non-human identities interacting with AWS services. Key deliverables include complete lifecycle management for all identities and the enforcement of "continuous least privilege access" by analyzing real-time usage data from AWS CloudTrail. This ensures that AI agents only possess the minimum access required to perform their functions, reducing potential security exposure.
Commercially, the agreement is designed to accelerate customer adoption and open new routes to market. As part of the collaboration, SailPoint’s solutions, including its Machine Identity Security and Agent Identity Security products, are now available for direct purchase in the AWS Marketplace. This integration simplifies procurement for AWS customers and expands SailPoint's distribution channels within the world's largest cloud ecosystem.
