Quantum Cyber N.V. said its board approved engaging investment banking professionals to acquire an equity stake in Space Exploration Technologies Corp., adding direct exposure to the world's most valuable private aerospace company as part of a multi-domain defense strategy.
"SpaceX is central to the future of defense technology," David Lazar, chief executive officer of Quantum Cyber, said in a statement. "We are building a platform that operates across air, land, and sea, and we intend to be positioned at the intersection of autonomous defense and the infrastructure powering the next generation of it."
The Nasdaq-listed company, which trades under the ticker QUCY, did not disclose the size of the proposed stake, the expected purchase price, or a timeline for completion. The stake would be carried as a strategic technology holding on the company's balance sheet, according to the statement. The acquisition remains subject to sourcing available SpaceX equity on acceptable terms, regulatory constraints, and changes in SpaceX's capitalization or valuation, Quantum Cyber said in a regulatory filing.
The board's decision reflects the company's view that SpaceX's low-earth orbit communications infrastructure, space-based sensing capabilities, and expanding US defense portfolio are directly complementary to Quantum Cyber's autonomous defense platform, the company said. If completed, the investment would give Quantum Cyber direct asset-layer exposure to one of the most consequential defense and aerospace enterprises globally.
The announcement follows Quantum Cyber's June 11 agreement with Project LightShift Inc. for exclusive worldwide rights to patent-protected quantum photonic array technology for defense drone applications. That deal converted the quantum layer of Quantum Cyber's System-of-Systems platform from strategic positioning into a signed, definitive intellectual property transaction, the company said at the time.
Together, the two transactions reflect the company's push to integrate quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and space-based infrastructure into a single autonomous defense platform spanning air, land, and sea. Quantum Cyber said it would provide further updates as the process advances.
