Key Takeaways:
- Pratt & Whitney received more than 800 GTF engine orders since January 2026
- Total order backlog now exceeds 8,000 engines globally
- BOC Aviation placed its largest-ever order for 220 GTF engines
Key Takeaways:

Pratt & Whitney has received more than 800 GTF engine orders and commitments since the start of 2026, bringing its total backlog to over 8,000 engines.
"We see strong demand for the GTF engine and continued confidence in the value it delivers to customers," Rick Deurloo, president of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, said in a statement at the Farnborough International Airshow. "The GTF Advantage engine will enter into service later this year and will provide up to twice the time on wing, industry-leading fuel efficiency and even more range capability."
Airlines and lessors that placed orders this year include Abra Group, AirAsia, Azorra, Binter, British Airways, Finnair, Jackson Square Aviation, Luxair, Scoot, Tigerair Taiwan and VietJet. The GTF engine delivers 20 percent lower fuel consumption and a 75 percent smaller noise footprint compared with prior-generation engines, according to the company. More than 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft are in service with over 90 customers globally, and total orders and commitments have surpassed 14,000 engines since the program's launch.
The orders strengthen RTX's competitive position against CFM International in the single-aisle market, where the GTF's geared architecture serves as the foundation for next-generation propulsion technologies. The GTF Advantage engine, which provides up to twice the time on wing, is set to enter service later this year. The engine family is expected to accumulate more than 300 million flight hours by the mid-2030s.
BOC Aviation, the aircraft lessor, confirmed an order for up to 220 GTF engines to power as many as 110 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, marking its largest order with Pratt & Whitney in a 29-year relationship. "This order is the largest that BOC Aviation has placed with Pratt & Whitney and a continuation of our 29-year relationship," Steven Townend, chief executive officer and managing director at BOC Aviation, said. "GTF engines enable a substantial reduction in fuel costs, contributing to the efficiency of our future fleet."
Tigerair Taiwan signed a memorandum of understanding for GTF engines on 15 A321neo aircraft, with a 12-year EngineWise services agreement. "Pratt & Whitney has been a trusted partner since we began operations in 2014," Joyce Huang, chairperson of Tigerair Taiwan, said. Deliveries for Tigerair Taiwan are expected to begin in 2028.
RTX, the parent company, reported 2025 sales of more than $88 billion and employs more than 180,000 people globally. The company is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.
The order flow shows that airlines and lessors are committing to fuel-efficient narrowbody technology despite ongoing supply chain constraints in aerospace manufacturing. Investors will watch for Pratt & Whitney's production ramp and the GTF Advantage's entry into service later this year as key milestones for RTX's commercial engine revenue growth.
