Pi Network activated Protocol v25 on July 22, introducing privacy-focused smart contract features that could determine whether PI can break above the $0.10 resistance level.
PI traded at $0.09119 on July 22, up 10.7% over the past seven days, as Pi Network deployed Protocol v25 — the network's most significant technical upgrade of 2026. The token has recovered nearly 30% from its all-time low of $0.07059 on July 14, though the rebound has slowed as it approaches the psychologically important $0.10 level.
"Protocol v25 improves network stability and reliability while supporting new capabilities for more efficient, privacy-preserving smart contracts," the Pi Core Team said in its July 15 announcement on X.
The upgrade adds BN254 cryptography and Poseidon hashing, two technologies commonly used in zero-knowledge proof systems that allow developers to build applications processing sensitive data without exposing information on public records. The release also includes improvements to network stability and developer tooling, according to the team. PI remains below its 20-, 50-, 100-, and 200-day exponential moving averages, which are aligned in a bearish order. The 20-day EMA near $0.0986 represents the first major resistance, followed by the 50-day EMA around $0.118.
The real test lies ahead. PI must clear the psychologically important $0.10 barrier — a level that has repelled previous recovery attempts — while absorbing approximately 127.5 million tokens scheduled for unlock over the next 30 days, averaging about 4.25 million PI per day. Each unlock wave increases the supply available for sale, requiring sustained demand to prevent the upward momentum from stalling.
Technical indicators show mixed signals
The Relative Strength Index has moved back toward neutral territory after approaching oversold conditions earlier this month, indicating selling pressure has moderated. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence, however, continues to reflect lingering bearish momentum, suggesting buyers still need stronger follow-through before sentiment can shift decisively.
The Aroon Up indicator has strengthened while Aroon Down has weakened, a sign that buyers have regained some control after the recent decline. The Chaikin Money Flow has moved into positive territory, pointing to improving capital inflows, according to TradingView data. A sustained move above $0.10 could expose the next resistance near $0.12, with additional levels at $0.135 and $0.15.
Token unlocks and security concerns add headwinds
Beyond the price action, Pi Network users have raised wallet security concerns after reports emerged of missing balances following token migration. One Pioneer claimed that after a three-year lockup period ended, an attempted migration of 143 PI resulted in a wallet showing a zero balance alongside multiple failed transactions. The incident has not been confirmed as a network-wide issue, and no public evidence links it to a flaw in the protocol itself.
The upgrade's success will ultimately depend on developer activity and ecosystem growth after deployment. If Protocol v25 attracts meaningful developer participation, it could broaden the range of decentralized applications available on the network and support a sustained recovery. Failure to hold above the $0.073 support zone, however, could leave PI vulnerable to another test of its recent lows.
