A new marketplace for real-world assets, NUVA, has launched on Ethereum with nearly $19 billion in tokenized home equity lines of credit and Treasuries from Figure Technologies, aiming to connect global DeFi investors with regulated U.S. yield products.
"We believe every single financial asset in the entire world is going to be tokenized over the next decade," Anthony Moro, NUVA's CEO and a 22-year veteran of BNY Mellon, said in an interview. "We're at that moment today with NUVA."
The launch brings a substantial portfolio of real-world assets, including home loans, onto the blockchain, positioning NUVA as a significant new player in the tokenization space. The platform is designed to be chain-agnostic but starts on Ethereum, packaging permissioned assets into tokens that can trade more freely. One of its initial products is a yield-bearing stablecoin structure registered with the SEC under the Investment Company Act of 1940, a move Moro says avoids regulatory uncertainty.
The launch signifies a growing trend of bringing traditional financial assets onto blockchain rails, potentially unlocking liquidity and creating new investment opportunities. By focusing on a regulated framework from the start, NUVA is betting it can attract capital from both traditional finance and DeFi. The move echoes other recent efforts in the space, such as Rezy.Fi's work with Nomyx to bring tokenized mortgages to the Avalanche network.
Moro, who previously ran BNY Mellon's American Depositary Receipt (ADR) business, compared the tokenization of RWAs to how ADRs allow foreign shares to trade in U.S. markets. He argued that blockchain infrastructure simplifies the custody, clearing, and trading functions that have historically required layers of intermediaries.
NUVA is also targeting global demand for U.S. dollar-denominated yield, partnering with firms like Animoca Brands to distribute its products through established crypto networks. The platform plans to operate 24/7 and will eventually transition over 50% of its ownership to users via a token, which will be distributed based on points accumulated through platform activity.
