DeFi protocol Morpho on April 8, 2026, launched "Agents" in beta, an interface designed for AI agents to read, simulate, and write on its protocols across the Ethereum and Base networks.
"The goal is to create a new class of autonomous, onchain participants that can enhance protocol efficiency and execute complex strategies," Morpho Labs stated in its announcement. The launch features two distinct products: a User Agent and a Builder Agent.
The User Agent provides full access to interact with Morpho's protocols on both Ethereum and its corresponding Layer 2, Base, enabling AI-driven applications to perform actions directly on-chain. The Builder Agent serves as a specialized knowledge base, designed to assist developers in creating new AI-powered tools and integrations for the Morpho ecosystem.
This development taps into the growing "AI x Crypto" narrative, which combines artificial intelligence with blockchain technology. By enabling AI agents to directly participate in decentralized finance, Morpho aims to attract more sophisticated, programmatic users and increase liquidity. The move could enhance the overall utility and automation capabilities of the protocol, setting a precedent for other DeFi platforms to follow.
