A Tokyo-listed AI data center firm became the first Japanese company to publicly hold Hyperliquid's HYPE token, buying 1,078 tokens for 10.08 million yen.
Eole acquired 1,078 HYPE tokens for 10.08 million yen ($67,000), becoming the first Japanese listed company to hold the Hyperliquid native token.
Yugo Takino, Representative Director, President, and CEO of Eole, said the crypto asset lending business serves as an entry point for expanding the company's financial infrastructure, comparing the approach to "banks starting their business by gathering deposits."
The company paid an average of 9,352.776 yen per token. It plans additional purchases in tranches through the end of August, targeting a total of 100 million yen ($670,000). The acquisition is part of Eole's Neo Crypto Bank initiative, announced in October 2025, which aims to build on-chain financial infrastructure for AI agents that lack traditional bank accounts.
The purchase contrasts with selling pressure from US-listed HYPE funds, which have recorded no inflows since July 15 and shed roughly $27 million over seven outflow sessions, reducing combined assets under management to $252.38 million from $370.8 million on July 6. Large holders including Multicoin Capital and a wallet tied to Selini Capital moved a combined 632,573 HYPE to exchanges this week, according to blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain.
HYPE traded at $53.9 on Thursday, down 19.4% over the past 30 days, making it the worst-performing token among the top 20 cryptocurrencies during that period. The token remains 29.8% below its June 16 all-time high of over $76.
East Meets West in HYPE Flows
The divergence between Asian institutional buying and US fund selling creates an unusual flow dynamic for HYPE. While Eole's phased accumulation signals growing corporate interest in Japan — a market where listed companies have traditionally focused on Bitcoin and Ethereum — the simultaneous outflows from US-listed products suggest Western institutional sentiment has turned cautious.
Eole's decision to add HYPE alongside its existing Bitcoin holdings reflects a broader strategic shift. The company expanded the use of proceeds from stock acquisition rights in July from "purchase of Bitcoin" to "purchase of digital assets," paving the way for the HYPE acquisition.
The first Japanese corporate treasury adoption of HYPE could encourage other domestic firms to diversify their crypto holdings beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum. If Eole completes its planned 100 million yen accumulation by August, it would represent a meaningful signal of institutional demand from Asia's second-largest economy, potentially providing a floor for HYPE prices as Western selling pressure persists.
