Crypto Equities Gain Over 7% as War Fears Subside
U.S.-listed cryptocurrency stocks opened the week with a strong rebound on March 25, reversing previous losses tied to geopolitical instability. The rally was broad, with Circle, Robinhood, and Cipher Digital each climbing more than 7%. Other major players, including MicroStrategy, Coinbase, CleanSpark, and BMNR, posted gains exceeding 4%. The positive momentum coincided with reports of de-escalating military conflict between the U.S. and Iran, which helped lift the price of Bitcoin 1% to $71,400 and restored investor confidence in riskier asset classes.
Circle Plunges 20% on Regulatory Threat to Stablecoin Yields
The relief rally was abruptly cut short for key industry players. On Tuesday, Circle's stock (CRCL) experienced its worst-ever trading session, plummeting 20% to close at $101. The sell-off was triggered by a new draft of the Clarity Act, a legislative bill containing language that would ban stablecoin issuers from offering yield “directly or indirectly.” Coinbase (COIN), which generates revenue from sharing USDC reserve income with Circle, also dropped 10% to $181. The proposed bill introduced significant uncertainty into the business models of companies reliant on stablecoin reserves, causing a sharp divergence from the broader crypto market's performance.
Analysts See Long-Term Value Despite Headwinds
Even as regulatory fears rattled parts of the sector, some analysts maintained a constructive long-term view. A research note from Bernstein reiterated a $150,000 price target for Bitcoin for 2026, alongside a $450 target for MicroStrategy (MSTR). The firm highlighted MicroStrategy's strategic use of preferred stock to fund over $1.5 billion in Bitcoin purchases during the month without diluting common shareholders. This continued accumulation, even through a 20% Bitcoin price drawdown, signals strong conviction from corporate buyers and underpins analyst confidence that the recent market volatility has not damaged the fundamental investment thesis for Bitcoin-proxies.
