CMB.TECH NV (NYSE: CMBT) reported a full-year profit of $139.1 million for 2025, bolstered by a strong fourth quarter as its total contract backlog increased to $3.05 billion.
The results, announced March 31, reflect the company's focus on fleet rejuvenation and strategic positioning in the green shipping sector through key partnerships for ammonia-powered vessels.
The company’s profit for the full year was significantly driven by an $89.1 million profit in the fourth quarter. The firm's fleet renewal program was marked by the delivery of 17 newbuild vessels, including eight Newcastlemaxes, while it sold 12 older ships.
The push into alternative fuels includes a landmark agreement with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for nine ammonia-powered vessels and another with Fortescue for an ammonia-powered Newcastlemax, signaling a significant capital shift towards green maritime technology.
Fleet Modernization
CMB.TECH's fleet rejuvenation efforts were a central theme in 2025. The company took delivery of 17 new vessels, consisting of eight Newcastlemaxes, one crude oil tanker, one chemical tanker, five crew transfer vessels (CTVs), and two construction service operation vessels (CSOVs). In parallel, the company expanded its order book with nine new vessels, including six chemical tankers, two CTVs, and one multi-purpose assistance and supply vessel (MP-ASV). To modernize its fleet, CMB.TECH sold 12 older vessels, comprising five very large crude carriers (VLCCs), two Suezmaxes, two Capesizes, two Panamaxes, and one CTV.
Strategic Investments
Early in 2025, CMB.TECH entered into a share purchase agreement with Hemen Holding Limited to acquire over 81 million shares in Golden Ocean Group Limited, further expanding its industry footprint.
The company's focus on green ammonia underscores a broader industry trend toward decarbonization. The agreements with MOL and Fortescue position CMB.TECH as a key player in the development of alternative fuel solutions for the maritime sector. Investors will be watching for further details on the delivery timeline and financial impact of these green fleet orders.
