Jack Dorsey's Block Inc. will give away $1 million in Bitcoin through its Cash App from April 6 to April 10, 2026, in a move to attract new users.
"The promotion, called 'Bitcoin Day,' revives a concept first introduced by early developer Gavin Andresen in 2010 to spur initial adoption," a company announcement detailed.
The giveaway is structured as a modern "Bitcoin faucet," distributing small amounts of cryptocurrency to users. The campaign will be integrated with Cash App and Block's new hardware wallet, Bitkey, aiming to streamline the experience for newcomers to self-custody.
The initiative is expected to drive a significant increase in user engagement on Cash App and accelerate the adoption of the recently launched Bitkey wallet. For Block (SQ), the campaign reinforces its strategic focus on the Bitcoin ecosystem, potentially boosting investor confidence. The move also provides a new on-ramp for retail users into the Bitcoin network, contrasting with the more institutional focus of recent spot Bitcoin ETFs from firms like BlackRock and Fidelity.
