Bitdeer to Launch 180 MW Norway Data Center by 2026
Bitdeer announced on March 30, 2026, that it has engaged DCI to finalize the development of a 180-megawatt data center in Tydal, Norway. Upon its expected completion by December 2026, the Tydal Data Center (TDC) will become the country's largest facility dedicated to artificial intelligence. The project marks a significant strategic expansion for Bitdeer, diversifying its operations beyond cryptocurrency mining and into the high-growth AI infrastructure market.
Project Taps Surging AI Power Demand
The facility is engineered to meet the intense power and cooling requirements of modern AI workloads. The computing power required for artificial intelligence is substantially higher than for conventional tasks, with a single ChatGPT search consuming approximately ten times more electricity than a traditional Google search. Driven by this demand, the International Energy Agency forecasts global electricity consumption by data centers will more than double to 945 terawatt-hours by 2030, making large-scale facilities like the TDC critical infrastructure.
Nvidia's Vera Rubin Platform Secures Key European Hub
The Tydal Data Center will primarily provide co-location services for Nvidia's latest Vera Rubin AI technology. This positions Bitdeer as a key partner for Nvidia, whose own forecasts project AI chip demand could reach $1 trillion by 2027. By hosting one of Nvidia's newest and most powerful platforms, Bitdeer directly integrates into the ecosystem of the dominant AI hardware provider, securing a strategic foothold in Europe's expanding AI landscape.
