Wallets linked to the Official Trump meme coin team transferred 2.62 million TRUMP tokens worth $6.21 million to OKX on Aug. 23, on-chain data shows, as the token crashed 33% from a five-month high of $3.60.
"The Trump team transferred 2.62 million TRUMP tokens to OKX," Lookonchain said on X, citing Arkham Intelligence data. The entity behind the token controls 15 addresses holding 751.799 million TRUMP tokens valued at approximately $2.04 billion, with the overall portfolio up 11.81%.
The transfer landed as TRUMP reversed sharply to around $2.40, erasing most of an 80% rally driven by unverified rumors of a new Trump family cryptocurrency on Robinhood Chain. Eric Trump dismissed the speculation as fraudulent on Aug. 22. The token trades roughly 97% below its January 2025 all-time high above $73, with a market cap near $600 million. Open interest reached $172 million, the highest since April, as traders positioned for continued volatility.
The entity's remaining $2.04 billion token hoard represents a persistent supply overhang. The same wallets previously deposited more than 8 million TRUMP tokens worth over $23 million to OKX in April and have moved large amounts to exchanges on multiple occasions throughout 2026. On July 25, the team moved 16.84 million TRUMP tokens worth about $16.9 million to three Fireblocks custody addresses. Additional transfers reported by analyst EmberCN put the total at $52.6 million in May and $19.6 million in April, spread across Binance, OKX and Bybit. Combined with $94 million in USDC withdrawn from the token's liquidity pool over the preceding month, reported transfers since last summer total well over $150 million.
The pattern has drawn regulatory attention. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal pressed SEC Chair Paul Atkins in an Aug. 4 letter to investigate whether the TRUMP memecoin facilitated illegal fraud or unjust enrichment. Nansen data cited by The New York Times found 988,905 wallets were underwater on TRUMP at the end of June, while fewer than 500,000 wallets were in profit. The Trump family disclosed $636 million in earnings tied to the token in its annual financial disclosure.
Traders are monitoring whether additional team-linked transfers to exchanges occur, which would point to continued selling pressure. The token's short-term trajectory depends on whether the $6.2 million OKX deposit results in actual sales and whether the broader crypto market can sustain momentum after bitcoin gained $15,000 in less than 48 hours.
