Sui advanced 8 percent to roughly $0.768 on Thursday, dwarfing the wider crypto market's 2.18 percent gain and ranking among the day's top performers.
The token-specific rally came as Sui's network absorbed a security setback. Full Sail, a decentralized exchange built on Sui, said it is winding down after an attacker drained roughly $91,000 from three of its vaults on Aug. 29, exploiting Switchboard production code that governs who can sign oracle price updates. Virtue separately reported about $455,000 in losses tied to the same Switchboard incident, which also halted the oracle network on Aptos, Iota and Movement.
Sui is a Layer-1 blockchain that processes transactions in parallel, competing with other high-throughput chains for DeFi activity. The buying pressure behind Thursday's move was specific to the token, according to market data, rather than a broad bid across altcoins. That distinction matters: when a token rises faster than the market it trades in, the move typically reflects demand tied to that network's activity or positioning rather than a general risk-on shift across digital assets.
The relative strength separates Sui from a market where smaller tokens have struggled. RootData counts 204 crypto projects that shut down, went dark or entered bankruptcy in 2026, a backdrop that has kept pressure on altcoins even as the largest assets advanced. Full Sail's closure, which the team said would direct remaining protocol-owned liquidity to users while absorbing the shortfall itself, adds to that caution.
Whether Sui can hold the outperformance depends on fresh network activity and capital flows into its ecosystem in the sessions ahead. The token's gain outpaced the market's rise by a wide margin, and sustaining that gap will require continued demand rather than a one-day spike.
