STX rose 13% to $0.24 after breaking a multi-month descending trendline, with the PoX-5 upgrade and an upcoming institutional Bitcoin-staking cycle adding project-specific momentum.
STX rose 13% to $0.24 after breaking a multi-month descending trendline, as Bitcoin's rebound toward $80,000 lifted liquidity across major altcoins. The token traded at $0.231, up 4.64% in the last 24 hours, according to CoinGecko data as of 06:42 UTC, while Bitcoin held at $76,920 after peaking near $79,500 on Aug. 21.
The move pairs a broad risk-on phase with a Stacks-specific catalyst. The PoX-5 hardfork went live on July 30, establishing the protocol infrastructure for Bitcoin Staking and Bitcoin Bonds, which let eligible participants pair BTC held on Bitcoin Layer 1 with STX on Stacks to earn BTC-denominated yield while keeping the Bitcoin in self-custody. Stacks has since announced its Genesis Bond, the network's first Bitcoin-staking cycle designed for pre-approved institutions, scheduled to begin around Bitcoin block 966,350, currently expected on Sept. 10.
Momentum has accelerated sharply, with the daily RSI moving above 80, confirming strong buying pressure but leaving room for a short-term consolidation after the vertical move. The breakout lifted STX above its immediate $0.21-$0.22 support zone, which now serves as the first retest level. The immediate hurdle sits at $0.24-$0.25; a sustained daily close above that resistance would strengthen the reversal structure and put $0.30 in focus, with the next major supply zone around $0.40-$0.42 offering a substantially larger upside target.
The rally is amplified by Bitcoin's broader climb, which rose more than 20% over the past week as U.S. Treasury buybacks eased long-end borrowing costs and renewed optimism around U.S. crypto regulation, including the CLARITY Act that Congress may vote on in mid-September. A firm hold above $80,000 would convert that former resistance into mid-term support and clear an upward vacuum toward the $95,000-$97,000 range, according to TradingView data. For STX, the next few sessions are decisive: holding the breakout area would confirm the 13% surge is evolving into a broader trend reversal rather than another relief rally, while losing $0.21-$0.22 would weaken the structure and increase the risk of a pullback toward $0.18-$0.20.
The Genesis Bond cycle, if it launches as scheduled on Sept. 10, would mark the first institutional Bitcoin-staking product on Stacks, extending the Bitcoin DeFi narrative that has drawn capital to related Layer-2 protocols. A successful cycle could pull further liquidity into the Stacks ecosystem and peer Bitcoin Layer-2 tokens, while any delay would test whether the breakout holds on technicals alone.
