Flowra launched an Open Orderflow Auction on Solana, opening transaction inclusion to competitive bidding and lifting compute units per block 20.6% in early tests.
"By opening block building to transparent competition, we're creating a more efficient market for blockspace while giving validators greater control over how their blocks are constructed with full verifiability and auditability," Harry Hwang, chief executive at Flowra, said.
In testing on a single validator, the setup moved compute units from 84 percent to 101 percent of the network average, with 100 percent block production and 99.999 percent block engine uptime. Flowra reported higher block fees than comparable validator software.
Flowra is onboarding institutional validators to the auction, with a broader rollout planned as the network expands. The system is now available to validators and searchers in the Solana network.
The auction lets registered searchers — entities that scan the chain for profit opportunities — bid for transaction inclusion rather than relying on closed orderflow channels. Flowra said the model improves price discovery and lets validators capture a larger share of value generated by maximal extractable value, or MEV.
Programmable Block Policy and compliance controls
Alongside the auction, Flowra introduced Programmable Block Policy, which lets validators set their own transaction inclusion rules at the block-building layer. The feature is designed to help validators meet regulatory and institutional compliance requirements without changing the Solana protocol. Flowra partnered with compliance provider Honeypot to add sanctions and risk screening at this layer.
Flowra's architecture draws on Ethereum's competitive block-building market, where open bidding has increased proposer revenue. The company said Solana's high throughput and low-latency design could support a similar market-based approach.
The launch comes as Solana's MEV market remains concentrated, with many validators relying on closed orderflow channels. Opening blockspace to competitive bidding could shift how value flows through the network's transaction ordering, giving smaller validators a path to capture more of the revenue that currently accrues to a handful of dominant operators. The outcome will hinge on how quickly institutional validators adopt the auction and whether searcher participation broadens beyond the early cohort.
