GWEI, the token powering the ETHGas protocol on Ethereum, jumped 38 percent to $0.0279 in the 24 hours to 14:00 UTC on July 25, recovering from a slump that had pushed it below its Coinbase listing price of $0.039 earlier this month. The token had fallen as low as $0.019 before buyers stepped in.
"Open Interest nearly doubled to $14.85 million, signaling fresh capital entering GWEI futures markets," according to Coinglass data. The Long/Short Ratio on the 1-day timeframe showed long positions holding roughly 57 percent of total Open Interest, per Coinalyze, pointing to improving confidence after the sell-off.
The move coincided with an ETHGas Foundation post about shrinking block "subslots" toward 100 milliseconds, a technical upgrade aimed at cutting slippage from stale quotes on decentralized exchanges. GWEI's 24-hour trading volume reached $54.93 million, or 111.8 percent of its $48.59 million market cap, according to CoinMarketCap.
The token remains 89 percent below its all-time high of $0.2491 set on June 29, but the structure is shifting. The Stochastic RSI dropped to an oversold reading near 18.56 before turning higher, a pattern that historically marked the end of selling pressure. If the reversal holds, the rally could extend toward the next resistance level at $0.064, a level that would represent a 129 percent gain from current prices.
Open Interest Surge Points to Fresh Capital
GWEI's Open Interest nearly doubled to $14.85 million as leveraged traders drove one of the clearest shifts in market structure, Coinglass data shows. The rise in Open Interest alongside higher prices supports the case for new buyers driving the recovery rather than short-term profit-takers closing positions.
Liquidations over the past 24 hours totaled $465,040, split nearly evenly between longs and shorts across all timeframes, per Coinglass. The two-sided liquidation pattern suggests leveraged traders piled in on both sides, typically meaning more consolidation before a clean trend emerges.
Holder Concentration Remains a Risk
Tokenomics data reveals severe concentration risk. The top wallet holds over 38 percent of GWEI's total supply, and the top five wallets collectively control roughly 86.4 percent, according to CoinMarketCap and BscScan data. The Gini score stands at 0.9935, with the top 100 wallets holding 98.76 percent of supply.
GWEI launched via a Token Generation Event on Jan. 21, 2026, with supply split across ecosystem (31 percent), investors (27 percent), team (22 percent), community (10 percent), foundation (8 percent), and advisors (2 percent), most under one- to two-year vesting schedules. Holders can stake into veGWEI, a non-transferable governance token with lock periods from one week to four years.
The token is listed on Binance ($74.57 million in 24-hour volume), Bybit ($17.14 million), Bitget ($6.06 million), and KuCoin ($1.40 million), among others. Liquidity relative to market cap is thin at 3.18 percent, meaning larger orders could face real slippage.
GWEI's daily chart shows the token found support near $0.0191 and reclaimed much of its lost ground. Resistance stacks at $0.02993, then $0.03818, with the next major level at $0.06594. A break below $0.019 would open the path toward the all-time low of $0.01276.
