Ethereum's on-chain fundamentals are aligning for a potential run to $5,000 as whale accumulation and exchange outflows accelerate.

Ethereum rose 34 percent to $2,547 as its MVRV golden cross and whale accumulation build a case for $5,000. The market value-to-realized value ratio crossed above its 160-day moving average on Aug. 19, a historically bullish signal, crypto analyst Ali Martinez said.
Whale addresses holding more than 10,000 ETH rose by 17 over the past week, a 1.74 percent increase, while 180,764 ETH worth about $440 million left exchanges, Lookonchain data shows. One wallet, 0x2d59, withdrew 120,000 ETH valued at $237.7 million from Binance over three weeks, including a 30,000 ETH transfer worth $67.42 million.
Ethereum must clear a supply zone between $2,722 and $2,970, where about 16.7 million ETH was previously purchased, to extend gains. A break above that range could send ETH toward $5,363, while failure could trigger a pullback to its realized price of $2,235, Martinez said.
Not all large holders are accumulating. Seven Siblings offloaded 14,000 ETH for $32.85 million at an average price of $2,346, while wallet 0xFD10 swapped 11,252 Lido Staked Ether and 1,824 ETH into 30.78 million USDT, Lookonchain data shows. Whale 0x4cee booked a $1.76 million profit on 5,250 ETH.
The divergence reflects uncertainty above $2,400 even as exchange outflows point to accumulation. Abraxas Capital withdrew 18,000 ETH worth $39.56 million, and a newly created wallet, 0x2261, moved out 6,704 ETH valued at $14 million from Binance.
US-listed Ethereum spot ETFs absorbed $220.77 million on Aug. 20, the largest daily inflow since Oct. 28, 2025, per SoSoValue data. The haul capped a four-day run of positive flows worth $512.25 million, pushing total net assets across the funds to $13.58 billion, the highest since May 11.
Ethereum traded at $2,422 at press time, up 29 percent over the past week, while Bitcoin reached $79,000 for the first time since mid-May. The broader crypto market cap stood at $2.64 trillion, with Ethereum dominance at 10.82 percent.
The causal chain is clear: MVRV golden cross triggered whale accumulation, which drove exchange outflows and ETF inflows, pushing ETH higher. If the token breaks the $2,722 to $2,970 resistance zone, the path to $5,000 opens. If it fails, the realized price of $2,235 becomes the next support level.
