China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said it will accelerate 6G core technology research and prepare for commercialization during the 15th Five-Year Plan period through 2030, a policy push expected to benefit telecom equipment makers and semiconductor suppliers.
"During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, we will accelerate breakthroughs in 6G core technologies, conduct continuous 6G technical trials and standards development, promote 6G industry maturity and ecosystem building, and prepare for 6G commercialization," Liu Yulin, Director of the Information and Communication Development Department at MIIT, said at a State Council press conference on Aug 26.
The 6G announcement came alongside other MIIT initiatives unveiled at the same press conference, including plans to build 500 zero-carbon factories and deepen AI applications in materials research and production. Yao Jun, Director of MIIT's Planning Department, outlined priorities for raw materials industries, including capacity management in steel and cement, resource security through efficient mining, and advanced materials innovation.
